Menus-Plaisirs – Les Troisgros

The veteran filmmaker, Frederick Wiseman, immerses himself into the kitchen of a three-Michelin-star restaurant to observe in great detail everything that is hidden, as he usually does in his films with all institutions (pedagogical or cultural) that he has documented with precision throughout his career.

 

From the selection of ingredients at the market to the work behind the creation of every plate on the restaurant’s menu, including the mise-en-scène at the moment of serving the clients, Wiseman captivates us with the beauty of the imagery. He offers a reflection on the efforts and creativity required to stay at the forefront of the gastronomic world for so many years. Additionally, he explores how leisure has evolved into an art full of compromises, seriousness, and precision, characteristics that can be attributed to each of his inimitable documentaries.
