The Last Son

After learning through a prophecy that he will be murdered by one of his offspring, a gruff outlaw (Sam Worthington) decides to off his own kin. For his sixth feature film, unclassifiable filmmaker Tim Sutton (Funny Face, Americana 2021) takes on the western genre. Written by newcomer Greg Johnson, the film nonetheless inherits Sutton’s impeccable and ethereal visual style, as well as its key themes, showing the latent violence that lurks within toxic masculinity.

Supported by great performances from Worthington (Avatar) and Colson Baker, better known as rapper Machine Gun Kelly, idol of the Gen Z and future husband of Megan Fox, The Last Son is a visually prodigious film. It’s as brutal and rough as its two main protagonists: tough cowboys, thirsty for blood and with a pending father-son feud.
