Zola

Zola is the first movie based on a Twitter thread (148 tweets in total). It’s a road movie that takes us to Florida and turns into a journey to the underworld of sex and prostitution, with echoes of Harmony Korine and Sean Baker. It was nominated at the 2022 Independent Spirit Awards in all the main categories.

When Zola, a small-time stripper, meets Stefani, the girls strike up an immediate friendship, and a mutual fascination sets between them. So, it is easy for Stefani to convince her new bestie to take a trip, together with her boyfriend, to the strip clubs in Florida, where she says she earns a lot of money. Of course, things do not go as planned, even more so since one of them hides some shady business. Their trip soon turns into a dangerous adventure.
