Le Successeur

At 30 years old, Ellias Barnès (Marc-André Grondin) is appointed as the new artistic director of a renowned Parisian fashion house. At the pinnacle of his career, with soaring expectations, he begins to experience chest pain. Summoned back to Montreal to organize his estranged father’s funeral, Ellias discovers that he may have inherited more than just his father’s weak heart.

Xavier Legrand, whose remarkable career began with an Oscar nomination for his 2013 short film Just Before Losing Everything, followed by the critically acclaimed Custody, which garnered accolades including the César for Best Film, a Golden Lion at Venice, and the Audience Award for Best European Film at San Sebastián. Now, Legrand brings his latest film, The Successor, to Americana fresh from San Sebastián. Once again, the filmmaker proves that to evoke terror, a film doesn’t always need elements of fantasy.
