In the Summers

Violeta and Eva return to Las Cruces, New Mexico, every summer to be with their father, Vicente (played by rapper Residente). As they grow older, these summers become a time of reflection, forcing them to confront a relationship shaped by their father’s unpredictable nature.

Through words, silences, and gestures, Alessandra Lacorazza makes her feature directorial debut with a film that is both unflinching and poetic, offering an authentic portrayal of family and the passage of time. In the Summers won the Grand Jury Prize and the Directing Award at Sundance, earning nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards and the Gotham Awards, solidifying its place as one of the most unexpected indie breakthroughs of the year.
