For a decade, Jim Cummings dedicated himself, body and soul, to the film industry, where he has worked in various departments such as sound, special effects and cinematography. In Thunder Road, he stepped up and acted as producer, director, screenwriter, and actor. With this first feature-length film, Cummings brings things full circle and concludes a journey that started in 2016 when he presented the eponymous short film (on which the film is based) that ended up winning the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film at Sundance and the Special Jury Prize at SXSW that same year.

In the feature version, Cummings retakes the role of grieving police officer Jim Arnaud. The painful loss of his beloved mother leads to the brilliant opening scene, bittersweet and cathartic both on a personal and cinematographic level. This performance confirms Cummings’ own words regarding the success of his short film: if the industry does not believe in filmmakers who remain in the shade, they have to do something to carry out their own projects. The feature version of Thunder Road is without a doubt one of the most satisfying examples of the complex subgenre that is dramatic comedy.
