Shortcomings

Ben, of Asian descent, manages an arthouse in Berkeley, CA, alongside his girlfriend Miko, who works for a local Asian American film festival. Mike finds himself in a relationship crisis, partly due to Miko’s perception that Ben is overly fixated on blonde women and that he is feeling undervalued. When Miko seizes a professional opportunity in New York, Ben begins to explore the privileges of freedom. However, his plans take an unexpected turn, and his queer best friend, Alice, becomes his sole source of support.

Shortcomings, a comedy centered around characters in pursuit of happiness, premiered at the last edition of the Sundance Film Festival. This heartwarming and quirky film brings us intimately close to a classical and personal approach to indie cinema, marked by modest ambition yet yielding impressive results.
