The fifth film by renowned director Kelly Reichardt starts with three radical environmentalists coming together to execute their most intense protest yet: blowing up a dam. However, the route she chooses to narrate this thriller-tinted drama is not her usual. Reichardt plays with elements like offscreen action, landscapes, dead moments, and marginal situations. She also likes for the viewer to get lost and impatient in her dilated narrative, and pays special attention to the emotional conflict that takes the characters towards their catharsis. Night Moves flows at a personal and private pace, and comes back to unsettle our minds hours after we have viewed it.
Kelly Reichardt made her debut as a director in 1994 with River of Grass. Later on, she gained reputation amongst festivalgoers and film critics alike with Old Joy, and specially Wendy and Lucy and Meek’s Cutoff. Even though Night Moves was screened at several festivals during 2013, it has no set release date for Spain yet. Therefore, after its first release in Valladolid, Americana brings the film to Barcelona so our audiences can enjoy it as it deserves, in the big screen.
