Matt and Mara

Kazik Radwanski, the director of Matt and Mara, begins his film by introducing Mara, a creative writing professor portrayed by Deragh Campbell, and her estranged university friend Matt, played by the chaotic Matt Johnson. Through their interactions, viewers uncover the history of their shared past and witness how their renewed connection stirs dormant emotions.

Chaos is present from the outset, as the characters’ introduction coincides with the central conflict. The disruption Matt brings into Mara’s life is skillfully conveyed through close-up shots and rapid montages during their scenes, contrasting with the wide, lingering shots that depict Mara’s family life. This dramedy delves into the internal contradictions we all face, highlighting the tension between personal desires and responsibilities and offering a poignant reflection on friendship and longing.
