Anger rages in Philip (Jason Schwartzman) as he awaits the publication of his sure-to-succeed second novel. He feels pushed out of his adopted home city by the constant crowds and noise, a deteriorating relationship with his photographer girlfriend Ashley (Elisabeth Moss), and his own indifference to promoting the novel. When Philip’s idol Ike Zimmerman (Jonathan Pryce) offers his isolated summer home as a refuge, he finally gets the peace and quiet to focus on his favorite subject: himself.

After his directorial debut Impolex (Best Foreign Film award at Sidney’s Underground Festival), and his sophomore effort The Color Wheel (nominated to the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards), here comes Alex Ross Perry’s third film, Listen Up Philip. The feature has already won the Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival, thus confirming the director’s ability to receive awards. Being one of the most appreciated indie films of the year, Listen Up Philip’s main strength lays on the wonderful performance by Jason Schwartzman, masterfully escorted by Elisabeth Moss and Jonathan Pryce.
