In one of Mexico’s oldest and most popular neighborhoods is “La Colonial”. In the middle of the last century, it was home to wealthy owners. Today, it is home to a community of men, a latent reflection of a Mexican social reality, who, faced with the adversity and marginalization of contemporary society, have built their own house.
La Coloniale is an observational documentary filmed in black and white, giving the viewers a sensation reminiscent of a distant era. David Buitrón presented this incredible story and its lonely characters at the Morelia Festival, and his film already earned itself the title of “anthropological study” with references to Lionel Rogosin’s On the Bowery and Frederick Wiseman’s Titicut Follies.
