Noah and Barri, a couple in their thirties, have no clue where their lives are heading. Barry wants to start a business with her best friend (who’s also the couple’s roommate). Noah can’t find any motivations in life other than working with his ex, who’s now a lesbian, and throwing away his money playing poker at a shady neighbor’s place. Everything changes when an elderly neighbor of theirs dies, and Barri suspects she has been murdered by her awkward son. The couple sets off on a investigation, which will take them to crazy situations and to discover whether their relationship has any future.

Sophia Takal and Lawrence Michael Levine are both a creative and real-life couple. In Wild Canaries, they deliberately mix comedy with mumblecore, in what is also a homage to Woody Allen. The end result is a very honest and refreshing low-budget film.
