Sujo

Sujo is left orphaned after his father, a cartel gunman from a small Mexican town, is killed. Rescued by his aunt, he grows up in the countryside, surrounded by poverty and isolation. However, when the defiance of youth surfaces, Sujo’s life is again at risk when he becomes entangled in the dangerous work of local cartels and its dire consequences, leading him toward what seems an inescapable destiny.

Fernanda Valadez and Astrid Rondero captivated international cinephile audiences with their previous feature, Sin señas particulares, which swept the 2021 Ariel Awards, taking home nine honors, including Best Film. It also earned acclaim at prestigious festivals such as Sundance, Morelia, and San Sebastián. With Sujo, they continue along this acclaimed path. After winning Best Film at Sundance world dramatic, the film’s momentum remained unstoppable, culminating in its selection to represent Mexico at the Academy Awards.
