Dusty is a cowboy whose ranch was destroyed by a forest fire. Along with others affected, he is provided by the government with trailers that they can turn into temporary housing. There, he must learn to live alongside his “neighbors” while growing closer to his daughter, whom he had almost abandoned since his divorce. The initial anger provoked by his new situation gradually gives way to strong emotions and unexpected emotional bonds.
Halfway between Kelly Reichardt and the early work of Chloé Zhao, Rebuilding offers a serene, humane, sensitive, and poetic outlook on a tragedy, a way of life, and a landscape. Josh O’Connor (La chimera) plays a vulnerable character with dignity in this moving film, nominated at the Independent Spirit Awards and screened at festivals such as Valladolid and Karlovy Vary, which features an amazing cast that includes Amy Madigan (Oscar nominee for Weapons).
