Miss Stevens (Lily Rabe), an English teacher in her late twenties, is going through a personal crisis she tries hard to ignore. Still recovering from an event she is unwilling to disclose, she lands the responsibility of chaperoning three students—Margot, Sam and Billy—during a trip to a drama competition in California. The four of them embark on a road trip, where the line between adolescence and adulthood can be very thin.
The debut feature of filmmaker and screenwriter Julia Hart (The Keeping Room) is a heartwarming coming-of-age story that avoids the genre’s clichés and stereotypes. Beautifully filmed, Miss Stevens is a fascinating character study tackling the complexity of growing up and coping with life’s adversities. The plot explores the boundaries between teacher and pupils and what it means to be an adult. It stars the talented Lily Rabe (Golden Exits and Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story) as its heroine. Rabe is surrounded by a gifted cast of young actors, including Call Me by Your Name and Lady Bird’s Timothée Chalamet and Kings of Summer’s Lili Reinhart (also known for her role as Betty Cooper in the Riverdale series).
