Adolpho Rollo (Steve Buscemi) is a loser who dreams about finding a producer who will take interest in his script, which is 450 pages long. Meanwhile, he works odd jobs, falls in love with his neighbor (Jennifer Beals), and lives in a strange community. To top it all of, he meets a possible producer (Seymour Cassel), who drags him into his ilegal and surreal world. Together, they form an odd couple and depend on each other to get on with their grim lives … even if that is through deception.

Movie director Alexandre Rockwell made his debut in 1992 with this awarded feature, which was directed with great eagerness and a small budget, and in the wake of Jim Jarmusch’s narrative intentions (who has a small cameo in the film). With a good mix of hilarious comedy and autobiographical features, and taking its characters somewhere between parody and affection, In the Soup breaths authenticity and charm.
