A group of friends enjoys an undeniable success in a small Manhattan theatre doing what they love the most: improv. Together, they form a group called “the Commune.” Their long-standing friendship helps them to connect both on and off the stage where, night after night, they have to be receptive and generous with one another to offer a memorable performance to their audience. Beyond the theatre, they make a living working precarious day jobs. One night, members of Weekend Live, a famous TV show not unlike Saturday Night Live, are attending their show and make one of them an offer that is impossible to refuse. As a result, the close-knit group starts to fall apart for the first time, and things will never be the same again. Now, they will have to put their friendship, their self-esteem and their love lives to the test.
Versatile comedian Mike Birbiglia (Digging for Fire, Trainwreck) returns behind the camera after his successful debut feature Sleepwalk With Me (2012) to present a loving tribute to live performance. He captures with passion the work and hardship of an improvisational theatre company and later shows with accuracy the fine line that separates fame from failure, friendship from jealousy, and love from oblivion. It stars an impeccable cast of TV stars such as Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) and Gillian Jacobs (Lemon, Community, Love, Girls). Don’t Think Twice has managed to awe the viewers and the critics alike, as evidenced by their whopping 98% of positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, where it is even compared to Woody Allen’s Manhattan. A little gem to discover.
